The Coach

After building The Upgrade University, Jarveal brought his coaching practice into higher education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he served as a Professional Development & Career Coach in Honors Carolina and as a Business Learning Manager for the university.

There, he led the university-wide implementation of PeopleGrove (the first career-access platform of its kind in higher education) and coached faculty, staff, and students in adopting it to expand professional development and career opportunities across campus.

Key Accomplishments:

  • UNC Professional Excellence Award (2020) — Honored by the UNC Employee Forum for performance that exceeded assigned duties, marked by strong cross-department collaboration and community engagement.

  • University-Wide Change Lead — Selected to lead the campus-wide L&D initiative and PeopleGrove implementation, drawing on his Honors track record and consulting background.

  • Carolina Black Caucus, Marketing Chair — Led member communication and engagement for the CBC.

  • Chapel Hill–Carrboro NAACP, Scholarship Chair — Oversaw the high school scholarship selection process, advancing educational equity in the community.

Within Honors Carolina, Jarveal became a driving force behind the program's growth, leading initiatives that deepened its impact:

  • Reimagined student governance — Transformed the Honors Carolina Student Board into the more inclusive Honors Carolina Student Association (HCSA).

  • Founded the Black Success Network — Created a platform for Black students to share their experiences and perspectives in a supportive community.

  • Launched Graham Gatherings — Built new traditions to strengthen community and connection among students.

  • Drove digital engagement — Designed a strategic plan to grow Honors Carolina's social media presence and created the "Do It For the Graham" global photo initiative spotlighting study-abroad experiences.
